Medals Awarded to Missouri Guardsmen for Rifle Prize Wins

Adjutant General Frank M. Rumbold distributed 30 medals from the War Department to Missouri National Guard members who earned prizes in target practice at Fort Riley last year. Fourteen medals went to St. Louisans of the First Regiment and seven to Third Regiment members. Top prize went to Seth E. Hargrove, corporal of Company E. The report also notes new state law creating county supervisors of schools, effective August 16, with bond and oath requirements and salaries tied to county population. Authorities seek Gov. Hadley’s presence at the First National Conservation Congress in Seattle and appointment of delegates. Acting Governor Gmelich issued paroles to two long-term convicts ill with tuberculosis, Joseph Limerly (murder in the second degree, 40-year term) and Charles Billy (murder in the second degree, 99-year term).
