The Olympic games at San Francisco draw crowds as horse shoe pitching revives local interest. Between Garrett backsmith shop and Lumsden and Jones barber shop a busy scene unfolds with a long registration list. The marble game is suggested as another revival to keep everyone employed.
Wheat for sale No 1 quality suitable for any purpose at 50 cents a bushel by J R Lantz and Son. This section was visited by rain bringing moisture to ground and corn roots. Fall pasture and plowing will start as moisture sinks in. Creeks flooded wells and ponds. roads muddy. nature looks brighter.
The annual Baskett and Jerome reunion will be at White Oak church on the third Sunday in August. Relatives are urged to attend.
The Lambert Reunion will be held at Browning Park on Sunday August 21. Families are invited to gather for the event hosted in the park with activities and memories shared.
The annual State 4-H Club Round-up at the Missouri College of Agriculture drew over 525 members and leaders. St Louis County led with 49 in attendance. Mary Ruth Norton of Sedalia won the girls style dress revue and will represent Missouri in national contests in Chicago this winter. Bernice Denny of Harrisonville named the state’s most outstanding 4-H clothing club girl.
Attendees gathered for the annual Round-up with renewed interest, according to T. T. Martin, state club agent for the Missouri College of Agriculture.
The Cotter Reunion will be held at Lineaus Park on Sunday September 4 with attendees expected from the local family network. Organizers invite relatives to gather for the afternoon event and share memories.
Fragments recount a Friday night at a hotel by the river, barber shop visit, shopping for sandalwood oil, a wedding, a neighbor prank, a price cut on antiques, and a job attempt with a whiskey runner. Names include Emmy, Pa, Mrs Pirkins, Jim, Mr Trissle, Joe Hix.
Linn County youth dominated the 4-H State Round-up in Columbia last week. Martin Baugher, Lloyd Richmond and David Baugher led the grand championship win in daily judging. Baking Club girls Pauline Watson and Luzenia Clawson placed third. Beef Club members Veda and Glenn Stockwell took third for “Fitting a Call for Show.” Ruth Lewis earned a blue ribbon as Health Champion finalist among five state contenders. 581 youths attended, marking record participation.
Entertained at the Adams home Monday August 15 with Mr. and Mrs. C. L. McQuown and children Ida and J. W. plus C. A. Dickson and two children of Milan C. J. Ingraham and sons Lyle and Gayle Mrs Minnie Reed of Canton Ill and Pauline Gregath and sons Jackie and Jimmie of Kansas City all present for the dinner event.
Mr and Mrs Fred Watson their son Charles and companions Vivian Franklin Bernice Franklin Eleanor Knight with Carl Daniles and daughters Lorene and Ila Mae and Mrs Fannie Harmon traveled through twelve states and five capitals. They toured Arizona California New Mexico Oklahoma Missouri California Mexico and Utah visiting cities such as Los Angeles Catalina Island Grand Canyon San Pedro San Diego and Lake Tahoe. They enjoyed ocean swimming fishing the Catalina glass bottom boat and sightseeing including Exposition Park and Angelus Temple. Mrs Laura Watson returned to California after the trip.

The M E Church South reports Sunday morning services with a sermon on Signs of the Time. No evening service due to a revival ongoing at Bear Branch.
DeVane Gray celebrated his eighth birthday August 10 at his parents Mr and Mrs Emery Gray home. Friends Harley Almond Bernie Carmack Richard Hatch Nina Bell Guffy Frente Knifong joined in games on the lawn then gathered in the dining room for ice cream and chocolate cake.
A group including Fred Lee Audrey Montgom ery Claris and Donald Knifong Glenleen Billy Jean and Carleen Frazier DeVon and DeWayne Gray left for home after wishing DeVane many more happy birthdays, ending a local gathering with warm wishes.
John Quigely reports Cleve Jennings’s farm sees grub worms attacking corn. In one hill they counted thirty-two worms. about six acres already destroyed. The worms are identified as ordinary grub worms, with an unusually large presence noticed during plowing on a field that had clover last year.
Every Friday and Saturday nights the Electric Theatre shows talking pictures with all seats priced at 10 cents.
Glenn Arnold of North Salem and Mrs. Irma Wampler of New Boston wed in Macon on Saturday August 6 1932 in the Probate Judge’s ceremony. Bride’s parents Louis Liebhart and wife near New Boston. Groom’s parents Ed Arnold and wife of North Salem. They depart for a motor trip to the Ozark Mountains with Mrs. Arnold’s daughter Lorene Wampler.
Missouri College of Agriculture issues a bulletin by J C Wooley on fence post materials and wood preservation methods. It notes rising farm fencing needs pushing hogtight fence use, labor limits, and shorter post timber quality. a survey shows northwest Missouri farms spend $36.28 yearly on fencing as a major expense.
A brief public notice urges customers to place repair orders promptly with Harvey and Neet for stove services.
During a storm last Thursday lightning struck a tree at Mrs. Martha Barrows farm near Old Scottsville killing nine of Charley Williams eighteen cattle grazing nearby. Eight were under the tree when struck one died farther away. Williams learned of the loss next day after a neighbor heard the calves and helped with burial.
Considerable clover will be cut for seed in Linn County with heads showing strong seed set and 30 to 40 seeds per head. A fair stand plus slight dampness at cutting yields profits. small forked bunches speed drying and reduce shattering. County Agent Hall will inspect fields free of noxious weeds to supply quality seed locally next year.

The Republican county committeemen in Milan elected Glenn Kent of Green City as chairman, Mrs. James of Newtown as vice-chairman, Mrs. Penn Love of Milan as secretary, and R. H. Hamilton of Browning as treasurer during their Tuesday session.
A letter to poultry raisers argues against a 30 day farmers strike that would halt selling eggs and poultry. The writer, a farmer and market intermediary, warns the move risks bankrupting debtors and harming those who supply the nation while defenders see solidarity against low prices.

The Linn County Ram Sale is set for Tuesday August 30 Col J B Fleming will cry the sale gratis to help Linn County sheep men improve their lamb crop in 1933 and 1934 County Agent Hall notes over four hundred rams are used each fall with about 100 head replaced yearly about 30 rams will be offered in this sale
Sunday dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Neet with children Nona Clair and Harvey James. They hosted Dr. and Mrs. E. P. Harvey of Kansas City and Mrs. J. B. Harvey along with Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Harvey.
J W Brassfield took his Chester White hog herd to the Bloomfield Iowa county fair on Monday. Carl and Nelson Brassfield traveled with the herd in their trucks and were accompanied by L N Haley.
