Civil War Veteran Chauncey R Hayes Dies at 70

Chauncey R Hayes born March 17 1842 in Homer Michigan enlisted 1862 in Detroit served as private in Company M 2d Michigan Cavalry under Sheridan. He died July 28 1912 in Caldwell Kansas at 1 20 pm after funeral at the Christian church led by Rev C M Myers. He left a wife Emma E Hayes and five children and three brothers. He was a Free Will Baptist, G A R Uptón Post 27 and Caldwell Masonic lodge member.

The Browning School Board will award one year of tuition free in the high school to a student from Duncan Pleasant Hill or Enterprise townships who has graduated from public schools with a diploma. Four entries from a township are required and an examination will be held at the high school under Browning supervision.

Delightfully Entertained by Mr and Mrs Guy Adams

Mr and Mrs Guy Adams entertained four tables for progressive whist honoring Miss Mary Wilcox of Linneus on a Saturday evening. Out of town guests included Mrs Minnie Duncan of Hereford Texas and Mr and Mrs Curt McCollum of Linneus. Fleming won the gentleman’s favor in a two handed game while three out of town ladies tied in the same number of progressions. Miss Wilcox drew the lucky straw for the favor. Dainty refreshments followed as guests departed for home.
