Uncle Reuben argues against elitist stretch of noble lineage in a Washington list of aristocratic Cavaliers led by C. W. de Lyon Nichols. He contrasts Revolutionary figures with modern descendants, questions inherited status, and notes local readers certified in the Leader-Record readership list.
The August teachers meeting will be held in the Linneus High School on August 24 and 25 with exams on Friday and Saturday after the meeting. All county teachers are urged to attend both days. A special program is planned for August 25 and multiple Linn county districts are urged to send school board members. Supt. Gass, J R Kirk, and S M Jordan are among expected speakers with topics on sanitation and agriculture.
H L James deputy game and fish commissioner of Carrollton was in town on Thursday. He notes dove season runs September 1 to January 1 and there is no open season for prairie chickens with penalties for violations, as he will enforce the law.
Sunday saw a lively baseball clash as Browning edged the Oklahoma Indians 4 to 3. Mullins sparked the Browning offense while the Indians’ southpaw dazzled with smoke and curves, and both teams delivered a fast, keenly contested contest for a large crowd.

The performance at the opera house Saturday night by J. C. Fuller and home talent drew a large crowd despite poor weather. The cast, including Glenn Tunnell, Lulan Duncan, Vesta Duncan, W. W. Palmer, F. G. Peters, Herman Adams, J. Fuller, and Susan Cornett, received high praise. Also noted is the obituary of Susan Creason born 1838 in Howard county, married James Creason, eight children, joined Primitive Baptist church, and died August 6 after long illness.
The Browning Creamery Co a new local institution produced 5616 pounds of butter in July. They stopped using tainted deep well water switching to soft water and report the product now commands a better price. They plan to buy cream from nearby towns as sales grow and urge patrons to deliver cream regularly.
Unionville downed Browning 11 to 3 in a midweek baseball game at the local park. Morgan pitched for Unionville with McFadden behind the plate, while Neely started for Browning after pitching Sunday for Laredo and finishing the game. Fulton worked part of the game as Neely finished, with several errors by Browning but the Unionville team played strong and took the win.
A small fire broke out on Thursday at A. A. Healy's building, likely from a defective flue. Firefighters arrived promptly and doused the flames, preventing a major blaze and further damage.
The Brook field fair will provide ample hitch racks for attendees, ensuring convenient parking for horse trailers and cart use. Organizers emphasize accessibility and safety for visitors arriving with equipment.
A reader from Cora Missouri dated August 5 1910 sends a one dollar check to extend a subscription to the Leader-Record Browning editor. The letter notes Uncle James Bunchs death and Mrs Anna Stones poor health. Hay harvest nearly over thrashing underway and crows thrive in the area. Wishing health prosperity and continued good work.
Special trains will run to the Brookfield fair with good hours to go and early hours to return. Big Thursday is billed as the biggest day Brookfield has ever seen.
L T Wykoff says his rights were violated as thirty days notice to move was not given. P L Urback and crew moved his house and furniture from south of the depot to a lot west owned by Mr Campbell, who bought the house from John W Fields. Wykoff remains at home just north of the old mill until the next move is decided.
Laredo hosts a three day picnic starting August 18 with noted speakers scheduled for each day. Saturday August 20 marks a political day with able speakers from both parties discussing current issues. Read the LEADER-RECORD ad for details.
