A major downpour drenched the area Monday around 1 pm with about 0.4 inches, overwhelming city drains. Water surged through streets, creeks spilled over banks, culverts were swept away, and fields and roads suffered severe washouts threatening new cane millet and corn crops in flooded lowlands.

Milan defeated Novinger 3 to 2 on the Milan diamond after heavy rain. Fields pitched for Milan, but most spectators faced muddy roads and only two cars reached the game. Novinger led 2-0 through six innings before Milan rallied in the 11th to claim the win.
The Old Settlers picnic at Linneus faced heavy rain on Thursday and a wet Friday morning, reducing attendance. By afternoon the weather improved, roads cleared, and the afternoon train was crowded with pleasure seekers though the overall excursion from the area was poorly patronized.
Despite muddy conditions on the diamond, melters claimed a 5 to 4 victory. The balloon ascent at 6 o clock energized children and adults alike, featuring notable parachute jumps. Col D B Ormiston served as master of ceremonies, pleasing all attendees. The old settlers event concluded warmly amid bad weather, with hopes to reciprocate Browning's attendance at Linneng’s next old settlers gathering.
