Missouri Vetoes and Accepts Measures in State Action

Governor Hyde vetoed eight bills and approved three, including a measure requiring rear end lights on St. Louis street cars. He denounced the cost as borne by riders and criticized two Jasper County salary bills as unconstitutional. Other vetoes covered tax and district reform measures. The report also notes crop damages, tax rate projections, railroad grade crossing orders, and several local legal and agricultural updates.

Congress Poised for Generational Turnover in 68th Session

Soon the capitol awaits a reshaped Congress as 140 members of the 67th depart, with leaders like Cannon and Volstead exiting. Senators Williams Calder and many others retire or are defeated, while Mondell, Fordney, and McCumber transition to new roles. The next house and senate will see new faces, new chairs, and a notably smaller presence of long-serving giants.
