Beware seed corn in Sullivan County this planting season
Farmers are cautioned to test germination before using any seed corn. Much of last winter’s corn, moved from distant sources, may yield only 80 to 85 percent. Tested, labeled seed costs about $2.09 per bushel and 30 to 40 cents per acre to plant. The state seed law requires full labeling including variety year grown source and germination percentage. Submit samples to the Emergency County Agent for testing guidance and avoid truckers and radio seed bargains.
