Brownfield Independent School District trustees meet in a called session Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. to consider adopting the 1986-87 tax rate. The meeting, in the administration building boardroom, comes as the board had already approved the school budget.
Prospective Brownfield Independent School District candidates have two and a half weeks to file for BISD Board seats in voting districts two and four. Alice Dodd filed for district two and Jews filed for district four. Filing ends Oct 15 with the election set for Nov 16. Budget talks include tax rate guidance and a 68 cent per $100 valuation, with a projected 7,565,339 expenditure. The board also considers a heating bid for the Brownfield Middle School Auditorium and holds an executive session on personnel matters and a band trip.
Brownfield city records show 30 building permits issued in September totaling $124,533, lifting the nine month 1986 total to $1,749,611. The city trails 1985 by $432,744 for the nine months. Largest September permit was $29,000 for a mobile home on South Jill St. Numerous residential and one commercial permit were issued, including additions, storage buildings, carports, and a fence.
Terry County's 1986 Fair opens at 8 am Thursday for area residents to bring exhibits to the National Guard Armory. Entry is free with residency shown in premi um lists. One entry per person per class. Fresh flower entries by Friday 8 am. judging starts Friday 8:30 pm. Fair hours Friday 1 pm–7 pm, Saturday 11 am–6 pm. Pet show Saturday 2 pm with prize classes. Pets must be owner, leashed or caged. Pickup 6 pm Saturday.
