The Brownfield County School Board approved a $472,819 bid from Knox Gailey Meador for two auxiliary gymnasiums at Brownfield High and Middle Schools. The project includes spectator seating and facilities and must be completed in 350 days.
Catalogs outlining rules and regulations for the Terry County Fair are available from county extension agent Jane Blay. Catalogs may be picked up at the extension office on the courthouse second floor as the fair opens October 7 and 8 at the National Guard Armory. Brownfield News will publish excerpts from division rules.
The Brownfield Ministerial Alliance opened special accounts at First National Bank and Brownfield State Bank to help the Longoria family cover a $10,842 medical bill for premature Maria Longoria. Raul and Norma Longoria, with another child, seek community donations to relieve the financial burden.
Head coach Jerry Bailey says the Brownfield Cubs have an excellent chance against the Monahans Lobos in Monahans on Friday at 7 30 p m It is the final preseason game before the season opener against San Angelo Lakeview on Sept 30 at 8 p m The Lobos are undefeated and top the District 2 AAA defense giving up 265 yards in two games averaging 132 5 per contest Bailey calls the Lobos a real fine football team and expects a tough matchup
The Brownfield Public Schools offer a basic education program for adults 16 or older with less than a high school education. Courses include reading writing arithmetic and English to help students gain employment qualify for promotions earn a high school equivalency certificate and become more effective in daily life.
J T Bowman 62 longtime Brownfield resident and businessman died after a lengthy illness. Services were held at Crescent Hill Church of Christ with ministers John McCoy and Bob Reynolds officiating. Bowman owned Bowman Oldsmobile Cadillac Buick GMC and chaired youth programs. He served in the Pacific during World War II and later supported local education and community groups. Burial was in Terry County Memorial Cemetery.
