Hancock Named Star Area Young Farmer At Convention
Donald Hancock of Terry County was named Star Area Young Farmer at the Area II Young Farmers Convention in Snyder. The event honored area farmers with several awards while Senator John Tower spoke on Vietnam inflation and agriculture to about 400 attendees. Hancock's 1050 acre Brownfield region farm has required drought and hail adjustments since 1956.

The Brownfield Consolidated Independent School District reports 3 033 students enrolled as of Aug 31 1966 a decrease of 117 from last year. Elementary enrollments fall while junior and senior highs rise. Oak Grove down 63. Two teachers resign and two new hires confirmed. Tax collection up to 879 158 47 from 94 7 percent. Tuberculosis testing planned for grades 1 7 and 8 with nurse visits and Title I funds approved.

Sidewalk Sale Draws Huge Crowd In Brownfield
A large crowd visited Brownfield for the annual sidewalk sale as tourists and locals filled the streets. Four residents—Robert Trevino, Mrs. Jack Longham, Linda Finley, and Mrs. Jerry Smith—each won $50 in the day’s four drawings. Best dressed prizes went to Le Roy Keck, Chris Reed, Jimmy Green, and Meredith Brasher.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cecil Casey 53 were held at Moore and Son Funeral Home Arlington with burial at Arlington Cemetery. She died in an Arlington hospital after a short illness and had lived in Arlington for 10 years. A Tax Foundation study finds Terry County residents receive substantial returns from social security. A 21 year old starting now would pay about 32 496 by retirement in 2010 and collect 33 183 if married or 19 704 if single. For 21 local men entering the workforce now total contributions reach 4 549 000 with expected benefits of 4 646 000 if married. A retiring married man would pay up to 2 270 but expect 26 050 in combined benefits.
