Brownfield High School launches a week of homecoming activities ending with a homecoming contest between Brownfield and an opposing team. The schedule emphasizes school spirit events and student participation throughout the week.
Advance tickets for the Friday homecoming game between Brownfield and Denver City are sold at Brownfield High School coach Deane Wright’s office. Tickets sell until 1 p.m. game day with reserved See Tickets. Page 4 notes Denver City at Cub Stadium at 8 p.m. and the homecoming queen coronation at halftime.
Morning awards lectures and bus tour showcase agricultural progress. Six busloads of Terry County citizens toured back roads as four awards were presented. Monty Henson earned Terry County Outstanding Young Farmer, the Earl Brown Jr. family named Farm Family of the Year.
City Manager Jake Geron says September utility charges are records, driven by lengthy billing periods and extreme heat. An August heat wave pushed peak demand to 15,900 kilowatts on August 27, while meter staff illness lengthened bills to as many as forty-two days, yielding higher charges for many customers.
The 1982 Terry County Oil and Gas Tour drew about 100 visitors led by Amoco engineers Robert Dodson and Richard Dixon. Four fields were toured including South Brownfield, Welch, Adair and Wellman, with notes on field history, production totals, and waterflood recovery methods. South Brownfield, three miles south of town, has produced about 5.5 million barrels since 1950 and currently yields 4,400 barrels per day from 12 wells, with three active rigs and two successful 1982 drillings by American Quasar Corporation.
The Terry County Democrats will meet at 7 30 p.m. Tuesday in the district courtroom of the courthouse. Plans for the November general election will be discussed. Local Democrats are urged to attend.
