Our Town reflects on a lively Side Walk Sale and the community mood. The piece notes downtown merchants dressing boldly, mentions Evelyn Goode and her son Michael calling from Taipei, and references a Farm Tour kickoff at 9 a.m. with six chartered air conditioned buses. It also observes a brisk north wind that morning.
The 1970 Ford cars and trucks along with Thunderbirds and Mercury models will be on display today from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm. Charles Darwin of Charles Darwin Ford, Inc. announced the showroom event and urged attendance.
The annual Sidewalk Sale drew a hearty turnout in Terry County with four $50 cash winners Wanda Case Mary Contreras Mrs J H Gober and Arcilia Elizardo. Best dressed winners included Mrs Dea Parker and Dave Grant. Merchants praised the Hippie theme and higher traffic with several claiming better overall sales than 1968 and last year.
Jess Bryant of 1808 East Reppto was elected for a two year term as business director of Plains Cotton Growers Inc. at an 8 p.m. meeting in the Farm Bureau Building. Bryant, a 17 year First National Bank vice president, is active in the Brownfield Kiwanis Club Babe Ruth League and Four County Agricultural Workers. outgoing business director is John Hall. Keith Vandivere serves as Terry County producer director. PCG directors include two from each county, one businessman and one cotton producer, with terms two years.
J. O. Gillham and Leo Holmes of Brownfield State Bank announce board approval to transfer 209000 from undivided profits to certified surplus. The move lifts certified surplus to 600000 and total capital to 1000000, placing the bank among Northwest Texas top ten in capital and surplus to deposits.

Jimmy Knowles and Dean Murphy purchase Joe's Restaurant in Brownfield and plan a Friday September 19 opening with free coffee and all you can eat fried chicken for 96 cents. They keep Paul Joanes Chevrolet ownership and name Woody and Bertha Morgan as managers with 15 years in local cafe work. Murphy has Brownfield roots and Knowles five years in town. The new owners aim for excellent food and a welcoming meeting place for friends.
Bowman Motors will display the new 1970 models from Oldsmobile Cadillac Pontiac and Buick this Thursday. Owner J. T. Bowman and general manager Jay Blevins announced the event and refreshments will be served throughout the day.
Thirty five local businesses sponsor the 14th annual Farm Tour set to begin at 9 am. This year eight sponsors more than last year. The tour includes six air conditioned buses, a barbecue lunch, and stops from Meadow to Union with farm visits and crop, irrigation, and conservation explanations.
School trustees discussed proposed insurance policies for the Brown Field Public School plant and personnel and tabled the matter for further study until Sept 30 after high school bids are opened. Jacek Pinson reported 41 migrant kindergarten students 17 in Colonial Heights 13 in Oak Grove and 11 at Jesse G Randol with GED courses and basic education classes to be offered at the high school tonight from 8 to 9.
The full line of Chevrolets for 1970 will be shown at Paul Jones Chevrolet today. Co owners Charles Paul and Cliff Jones announced the display with coffee and doughnuts served all day to attendees.
