Cubs Fall To Levelland In Final Quarter

About 4 000 fans braved threatening weather as Brownfield's Cubs fought Levelland Lobos to a 21 14 defeat in the final quarter. A freak kick set up Levelland's second touchdown, and Wright had a negated Cub score on a fourth down. Brownfield showed early drive into Lobos territory, but the ball control favored Levelland throughout the first half.

T B Wood Succumbs To Accident Injuries

T B Wood 65 of Route 1 died at 10 05 a m Thursday at Treadaway Daniels Hospital from injuries in an automobile crash last Friday night. He had lived in Terry County 31 years and was a prominent farmer. Survivors include his wife and two daughters.

Mercury Vapor Lights Planned for Lubbock-Seagraves Road

City manager Eunice Jones said the 70 to 80 mercury vapor streetlights will be installed next year along the islands of Lubbock Seagraves Road if next year’s budget permits. The highway is set to be completed in about two weeks with yellow reflector paint on traffic islands. One or two new signals may be added at Hill and Buckley streets if the highway department approves.

Lubbock Youths Charged in Country Club Burglary

Three Lubbock youths Matthew Click 17 Buddy Allredge 18 and Lannay Lishman 17 were arraigned on burglary charges for a Wednesday night break in at Brownfield Country Club Bond set at 1500 each. Sheriff said about 65 dollars in merchandise and some change were taken and the trio was arrested near a north College Avenue drive after patrols spotted them.

City pound fills as 36 dogs caught by catcher J W Chidester

City animal warden J W Chidester and assistant Jessie L May processed 36 dogs by Friday noon after starting Wednesday. One dog tagged, 35 untagged. 16 caught first day, 17 Thursday, one owner paid $3 to reclaim a pet. New pen to hold 25 dogs nearing completion. The dog leash law, in effect since Sept 1 by a July 23 vote, bans dogs from roaming public grounds. even penned or leashed dogs must wear two collars.

Immunization Clinic at South Plains Unit Closed

The South Plains Health Unit at East Main and D Streets will not hold any immunization clinics until a new director is appointed after Dr. R. E. Johnson was transferred to Midland. County Judge Herb Chesshir said a replacement is expected soon, and residents who cannot pay are advised to see county health nurse Mrs. Viola Simmonds at the unit.

More than a dozen Terry County farmers and farm bureau members will attend the District 2 Texas Farm Bureau meeting in Lubbock Thursday. The day includes selecting a farm bureau queen from Terry County, Naydene Faulknerberry, with 8 p.m. ceremonies at O. L. Slaton School.

Brownfield Golfers Brighten South Plains Tourney

Brownfield golfers traveled to Plainview Country Club for the South Plains Women s Golf Association annual tournament. Minnie Hazel Bowman won the consolation in first flight by defeating Peggy Elliott after a 19 hole semi final. Helen Humphries of Lubbock captured the tournament title.

Will Tour In Buses In Terry County Soil Tour

The fourth annual Terry County Soil Conservation field tour leaves at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Courthouse square in eight air conditioned buses. Attending are the board of supervisors led by L. M. Waters Jr and Soil Conservation Service staff, with escorts from city and county law enforcement. The group will make four stops including fertilizer tests at the Lubbock Experiment Station near Grover Richie Rim and trips around Meadow, Levelland, and surrounding areas to showcase crop prospects both dryland and irrigated.

Man Raises Game Birds At Home To Bypass Quail Shortage

B N Flanagan of 713 Magnolia Drive raises his own game birds amid quail shortages. He now owns about 150 birds including white and chukker quail and ring neck pheasants. Incubation, feeds, and licenses are described as he plans to sell dressed birds.
