BRMC Board Sets Meeting Monday Night

The Terry Memorial Hospital District Board of Directors will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Monday. Administrator John Templain will report on the hospital finances and the medicare program. The meeting includes a staff report and a personnel discussion to be closed to the public.

Brownfield ISD Trustees Set Monday Night Meeting

Brownfield Independent School District trustees scheduled a 7 30 p m Monday session in the administration building boardroom. Agenda includes 1982 83 goals, a superintendent report by Crandall Young, curriculum update from Jack Pinson, financial report by James Willis, and a motion to authorize Brownfield High School's annual fall bonfire. Information items cover TASB conference October 24, South Plains SBA meeting September 23, policy reviews, legislative information, and an executive session on personnel matters.

Meadow ISD Trustees Agenda For Monday Meeting

Meadow School Board will meet in regular session at 8 a.m. Monday. Agenda includes a report on asbestos content at Meadow Elementary, adoption of an amendment to special education policies, and discussion of an amendment to the South Plains Board Association by laws.

Commissioners Set Monday Meeting Agenda For Terry County

Terry County commissioners schedule regular session at 10 a.m. Monday with a state highway funding resolution as a primary item. Also on the agenda are Landmark Cablevision’s request to run a half inch cable line in Precinct Two and a courthouse elevator proposal from architectural consultant Atmar Atkinson.

Three Guilty Pleas Draw Probation In District Court

District Judge Ray Anderson presided over the session of the 121st District Court and placed three defendants on probation after guilty pleas. One defendant was sentenced to four years in the Texas Department of Corrections after pleading true to violating probation terms. Arturo DeLeon pleaded guilty to burglary of a habitation and received a six year probationary term plus fines and restitution. DeLeon must pay $97.50 in court costs, $150 restitution, $200 attorney fees, and observe a midnight curfew along with general probationary restraints.

County crops hammered by stress in Terry County

Agricultural officials say this summer left Terry County crops stressed with cotton acreage likely 200,000 to 220,000 acres and bales around 70,000 to 90,000. Decker notes yields will be way down and many producers have not certified acreage yet notes open cotton bolls and stressed grain as signs of hardship.

Annual Terry County Farm and Oil Tour Schedule

About 600 Terry County residents will board seven buses at First Baptist Church at 8 30 a m Thursday for the Annual Terry County Farm Tour. After a barbeque at Coleman Park the fifth annual oil and gas tour begins at 1 p m with stops at Brownfield South Field Welch Adair and Wellman fields ending at Halliburton Services. Soil Conservationist Duane Moss notes a strong crop mix and varied tours for all.

Cancer Society unit recertified at year end meeting

The Terry County Chapter of the American Cancer Society held its year end board meeting at Brownfield Country Club and was recertified as a chapter for another year while installing new officers led by Jack Cargill as president and A J Phillips as vice president. The outgoing president cited more than 16000 raised in the year across crusades memorials and tournaments plus a clinic to help residents stop smoking.

Agricultural Weather And Climate Report Terry County

No rain fell in Terry County over the past week with above normal temperatures and high radiation. Soil moisture for sorghum cotton and corn dropped sharply. sorghum water near 10 percent and dryland cotton near zero. Heat units run well above normal though future rain chances remain limited. August was warm and dry.
