The annual One-Arm Dove Hunt took place in Olney Texas on Friday and Saturday drawing participants who shoot with one arm. Local organizers promote safety and sportsmanship while celebrating this unique hunting tradition with competitors showcasing skill despite the handicap.
Delwin Jones of Lubbock announced he will not seek Congress this year. He said building seniority would take too long and that he can be more effective in state government after eight years as a Texas state representative. He served 1964 to 1972 and plans a state office bid soon.
A get acquainted ice cream social will welcome new Brownfield Independent School District teachers at 7 30 p.m. on Monday Sept 12 in the High School Commons. Hosted by the Chamber of Commerce Red Coats and Red Skirts.
Entries are open for the Terry County Men's Slowpitch Tournament on Sept 17–18 with 16 teams accepted on a first come basis. Registration is $50 per team, deadline Sept 15, and trophies awarded for first through third. Contact Joe Cardenas at 637-6088 after 5 p.m. for rules and details.
In a defensive struggle the Cubs trailed Seminole 6 0 at halftime after two quick scores by the Indians. A late second quarter drive produced a 14 6 deficit, and Seminole extended its lead to 20 6 early in the third as Brownfield struggled to move the ball and fielded several costly plays.
In Wellman, Wellman and Hermleigh opened scoreless in the first quarter. Arrezola and Berryhill sparked Wellman with rushing TDs and two point kicks. Hermleigh dented the lead with Burleson scores as Wellsman pulled away 36-14 finishing with strong yardage and first downs.
Tahoka's Clifford Bailey rushed for 205 yards as Tahoka beat Plains 26-14. Plains led early with Rusty Howell to Clinton Yeatts and Dale Sherrin extra points, but Tahoka answered with Bailey scores including a 63 yard run. Meadow and New Home split points 24-14 with Blair and Perez scoring, while Brownfield district plans include building costs of 68,622.72 and teacher hires as enrollment rises.
