City Council holds two hearings on budget and tax rate

Brownfield City Council in regular session held the second public hearing required by state law for the 2006 2007 property tax rate and budget. The 49.0030 cent rate is the same as last year but above the effective rate due to rising property values. No public comment was offered and both items are up for a Sept 21 vote. The council also discussed spending from about 21000 in park funds for ongoing upkeep and future repairs, keeping the money in a dedicated park maintenance fund. The term of Dr Morris Knox as director of the South Plains Health Department was renewed. The meeting ended with a closed executive session to evaluate the City Manager and Assistant City Manager with no action taken on reopening.
