Cubs Triumph In Opener To Start Strong Season
Brownfield Cubs opened football season with a 32 27 victory over Levelland Lobos. The Lobos led early as Levelland struck with a 70 yard TD, but the Cubs rallied in the second half led by Robert Lepard and Scott Jackson. At halftime the Lobos led 21 18 and the Cubs held the edge in passing. Field Day TAES set for Tuesday at Texas A&M Lubbock center with tours, displays, and food preservation demos.

Birthday tribute to 92 year old Mrs A L Baker of Brownfield
Mrs A L Baker aged 92 celebrated her Sept 3 birthday at her home in Brownfield Texas. Born 1883 in Millsap Parker County she raised a large family with 111 descendants including 6 daughters 5 sons 31 grandchildren 61 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Her life spanned moves from Parker to Haskell Lynn Terry counties and finally Wellman where she and her late husband farmed and then settled. She remains active at home with a greenhouse and quilts noting 52 quilts completed in one year and ongoing crafts despite aging eyesight.

New Levelland Minister Bob Reynolds to Lead Crescent Hill Church
The Elders of Crescent Hill Church of Christ announce Bob Reynolds of Levelland as the new minister replacing Douglass Rohre who moved to Waco. Reynolds, born in 1930 in Lubbock County, will assume duties Oct 1. He brings years of preaching, radio work, and regional ministry across several states. The Cancer Society reports 356.50 transmitted to Austin for the period ending August 31, 1975, reaching 28.8 percent of the year’s $1,906.17 goal as part of the Memorial Fund. Memorial chairs in Terry County are Peggy Gillespie, Mrs. John Cadenhead, and Mrs. Harvey Tubb, with bi-fold envelopes available in each town.

Six buses will be ordered for the annual farm tour set for October 2 leaving the courthouse at 9 a.m. A barbecue lunch will be served in Coleman Park at noon after the tour. Duane Moss notes exhibits in the Armory and Harvest Festival Queen candidate photographs. Nominations for Outstanding Farm Family Dry Land Farmer and Agriculture Individual are arriving. deadline is September 15 with the committee meeting September 16 and representatives from about twelve organizations.
