Annual Farm Tour heads through Terry County Thursday

The 1992 Terry County Farm Tour gathers at 9 a.m. September 17 from the First Baptist Church lot. Seven buses will travel deep into the county’s southern crops with guides Duane Moss Lewis Waters Bill Keesee Buzz Steele Kermit Shults Dirk Aaron and Rick Harrell. Dr Rosemary Seymour of Texas A M Extension in Lubbock will discuss irrigation water management. The Brownfield Gifted and Talented class joins the tour. it ends at Coleman Terry County Park with a meal and Harvest Festival queen introductions.

CED holds public hearing on 1992 tax rate

In a Tuesday night session County Education District 6 trustees heard a public comment from Lubbock resident Max Winn opposing the proposed 1992 tax rate of 90.1 cents per $100 and urged taxpayers to refuse payment. The board also approved the CED 1992-93 budget totaling 118,034,175 in revenue and expenditures after a brief discussion. A special meeting to vote on the tax rate is set for Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. See CED.page 4.

Rialto Theater project discussed by Brownfield chamber

Brownfield Chamber of Commerce directors heard a Rialto Theater status update from Jim Kirkendall. He outlined plans to purchase and restore the Main Street theater as a nonprofit, to host live plays and eventually transfer operation to Brownfield Community Theater, but funding and contact progress were limited.

Council votes to demolish one house in 1005 N Ist area

September 6 1992 council consensus calls for tearing down the dilapidated 1005 N Ist property while extending 1320 N A ownership time for at least 60 days. City officials cited unsafe wiring weeds and animal access under the dwelling as reasons for demolition and delay.

Brownfield News office to relocate during remodeling

The Brownfield News will move from 409 W. Hill to a temporary site at 119 S. 6th St on Wednesday Sept 9 for about four to five weeks. All business continues as usual with Wednesday and Saturday deliveries. Phone lines may be congested after Sept 9 with two lines in use 637-4535 and 637-4536, fax 637-3795, 800 number disconnected in September.

Armed Robbery At Finn Gas Station On Lubbock Hwy

A lone Black man entered Finn Gas Station on Lubbock Highway Friday night around 9 35 p m and demanded cash. The clerk opened the register and handed over an undetermined amount. Suspect fled on foot, described as 5 8 to 5 10, 170 to 190 pounds, wearing dark clothing possibly sunglasses and a baseball cap. No arrests yet, investigation ongoing.
