Ninth Annual Farm Tour Set Friday in Terry County
Friday marks the ninth annual Field Trip co sponsored by the Terry County Soil Conservation District and the Chamber of Commerce. More than 200 people will tour seven farm sites leaving from the courthouse square at 9 a.m. and ending with a fish fry at Coleman Park at 12:30 p.m. A surprise award for Outstanding Diversified Farmer of 1962 includes a plaque and 250 dollars. Bruce Zorns and A C Bishop announced the plans with police and sheriff aiding traffic.

Brownfield voters approve integrating local schools by a 333 to 286 margin with 619 turnout. The school board endorsed integration while noting no canvass date set and no decision on when classes will merge. Wheatley elementary will stay in use with 138 Wheatley students this week.

Jaycees Run Labor Day Rest Stop For 850 Motorists
Brownfield Jaycees served about 850 travelers at their annual Labor Day rest stop on Saturday. Twenty members worked all day providing refreshments while motorists from Michigan stopped for drinks coffee and donuts. Donations came from Bailey Chevrolet Bowman Oldsmobile Cadillac Pontiac Tudor Sales and other local businesses.

Hearing On County Budget Set Monday
The Commissioners' Court will hold a public hearing on Terry County's 1963 budget Monday at 10 a.m. County Judge R A Simms announced. Taxpayers may inspect the budget and offer criticism before the budget is adopted and the tax rate set.

Showers Continue In County Area This Week
Scattered thundershowers persisted in Brownfield and Terry County with over an inch of rain since Sunday. Radio KTFY registered 75 degrees Sunday and .17 inches Tuesday night as a cool front dropped temperatures. Overcast skies and light moisture continued Wednesday with more thundershowers forecast this week.

Williams Rites Set Here Today
Mrs. L. C. Williams aged 67 died Monday evening at Brownfield General Hospital after a nine day stay. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Brownfield Funeral Home with Joe Chisholm of Plains Church of Christ officiating. Burial follows in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. She came to Brownfield in 1958 from Oklahoma City and lived with sister-in-law Ida Manning. Survivors include her husband of Brownfield. one brother Jeff D. Grisham of Tucson. four sisters Wille Thrush and Opal Beckett of Needles California. Thelma Van Sant and Eugene Keen, both of Los Angeles.

Pair Sentenced In Court Here
William A. Blanton age 45 and Richard Lee Redman age 19 both of Odessa were sentenced in 1211th District Court to five years in Huntsville State Penitentiary for burglary of coin operated machines in Brownfield. Redman on first offense placed on probation by Judge M C Ledbetter. They still face charges of burglary of coin operated machines in Lubbock after arrest August 14 with 85 keys money boxes and cash recovered from an old model Cadillac. Judge Ledbetter also sentenced Jimmy R Madding four years for forgery Gilbert O Fernandez three years probation for theft over 50 dollars and Warren Eugene Graham 250 dollar fine for driving while intoxicated.

Enrollment shows rise at Brownfield public schools
Brownfield public schools opened with 2,820 students on the first day and officials expect over 3,000 within two weeks as enrollment rises 3.5 percent from last year. The only declines were at Randal and Wheatley, while Seagraves has integrated and is not sending students here this year.
