Amendment Voted On Tuesday In Terry County

Terry County voters will go to the polls Tuesday to vote on a constitutional amendment to increase the state Senate from 31 to 39 members. Polls open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A simple yes or no ballot will appear with FOR or AGAINST. Seventeen polling locations include the county clerk’s office courthouse tax assessor’s office and several schools and halls.

A car and a TIME Freight Inc truck collide at 2 39 a m on U S 62 and State Highway 137 injuring Isaac Raybaird and killing Roberto Romero 59 Mary Solis 57 and Pete Romero 16. Hubert Cook the truck driver survived.bystanders aided scene. fourth fatality this year on Brownfield streets.

Brownfield Council okays partial payment to water authority

Brownfield will send a check to the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority for about 535 dollars as half of its assess ment for the project. Each of 11 member cities pays 15 cents per water meter connection as of Sept 1 with another due March 1, 1966. Brownfield has 3,569 meters connected as of June 1. The council will determine Sept 1 connections and send the share. A weed ordinance was deferred for study. Five couples will attend the Caprock Region Texas Municipal League dinner September 9 in Lubbock with Sen Doc Blanchard as speaker. A waiver request by Brownfield Cable Television Co. was referred to the city attorney.

Water Usage Drops With Cool August in Brownfield

City figures show Brownfield used 58.07 million gallons of water in August, far below 90.26 million in 1964. Peak day was August 7 at 3.45 million gallons, while August 23 saw a low of 639,600 gallons. A year earlier on August 9 the city fed 1.93 million gallons.

Chamber to Welcome Tour Visitors at Brownfield Airport

Chamber officers and directors plan to greet the All Tex as Air Tour at Brownfield Airport on October 7. About 100 flying enthusiasts, in their 17th annual state air tour, will stop for 15 to 30 minutes and be served refreshments by city officials. The Red Coats will lead the brief welcome.

Three Networks to Be Received by Brownfield Cable TV

Brownfield residents may get cable service around Sept 22 if equipment arrives on time. Co owners Wilson Copeland and Eulan Eaves, with partners W C Arnold and Wayne Arnold, expect seven commercial channels via Big Spring Midland Odessa Monahans Roswell and Lubbock. Medrano Charged After High Speed Chase Ends in Capture

A high speed pursuit involving city and county officers ended with the arrest and booking of Daniel Medrano Jr for traffic violations. At 2 a.m. a man was found on the highway and later several others were taken into custody. Foster faced resisting arrest and drunken charges.

Center Set To Open Tuesday

The Brownfield Civic Center opens Tuesday with Hoyse Nix and his band providing dancing music to celebrate the new venue. The 80 by 100 foot all steel building sits north of the city between the Lubbock and Levelland highways and will host banquets wrestling and other events.

Lions District Governor visits Brownfield Lions Club

Alton Griffin District 2-2T governor spoke at the Brownfield Lions Club luncheon about boosting district goals. He aims to raise membership from 2,785 to at least 3,200, improve attendance, and expand inter-club visitation citing the Lockney club’s program as a model.

Labor Day is observed with most Brownfield businesses open and many families taking a final outing before Thanksgiving. Dollar Day bargains attract shoppers while some stores stay closed. The Jaycees run a Labor Day Rest Stop at Brent's Drive In offering coffee and doughnuts to travelers. Schools close tomorrow and courthouse staff enjoy a long weekend ending Tuesday after elections.
