Red Ribbon Week Created From A Local Symbol
Cerise J Merritt recounts how a 1 by 4 inch gold embossed red satin ribbon began as a memorial for DEA agent Enrique Camarena and evolved into a national anti drug campaign. The Red Ribbon Campaign united families and schools, led to Red Ribbon Week in 1988, and now spans drug alcohol and tobacco prevention with millions participating annually.
