Fatal collision claims life of woman at Brownfield intersection
A 67 year old woman, Laura Chandler Skoog of New Braunfels, died after a two vehicle crash at 14th and Main in Brownfield. Her car, a 1971 Dodge, was struck by Normal Wayne Tekell's 1971 Chevrolet pickup from the west as she traveled south. A passenger, Ruth C Patton of Tinley Park Illinois, was injured but not listed as seriously hurt. Tekell's 10 year old daughter Meloney rode in the pickup uninjured. Police describe the impact as the pickup hitting the car on the side, spinning the vehicles, and the car hitting a utility pole. Officers aided traffic control while tow crews removed the wreckage.

Juvenile drug cases filed in Brownfield police drive
Three cases charging possession of marijuana and one of sale and possession were filed Tuesday against two male and one female juveniles, all 16 and Brownfield High students. About one and a half pounds were seized and sent to a state lab. Hearing set for December 5 before County Judge Simms. Nine other youths ages 17 to 18 may be called before a Grand Jury. state narcotics agents probe the supply.

United Fund Drive Ends Short of Goal in Brownfield

Pioneer Natural Gas and Houston Natural Gas Terminate Merger Talks
Officials from Pioneer Natural Gas of Amarillo and Houston Natural Gas Corporation said last week that discussions on their proposed merger are terminated. The earlier plan from October 18, 1972, proposed exchanging one Houston Natural Gas share for 2.25 Pioneer shares, pending directors and shareholder approval and other conditions. No reasons were given for the termination.
