Legion Christmas Party For Veterans Planned By Post 269

American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary Post 269 will host a Christmas party and dinner for veterans and families at the American Legion Hall on December 6 at 7 p.m. Attendees bring a $1 gift or more to donate to the Big Spring Veterans Hospital Gift Shop. gifts aid hospitalized veterans. Contributions by phone accepted after 5 p.m. for pickup.

Christmas comes early as Our Town plans ahead

Toastmaster Club Moves Toward Charter Status

The Brownfield Toastmasters meet at Joe's Restaurant Tuesday night where members received the Basic Training in Communications and Leadership manuals from Toastmasters International. Lilly Halthrop acted as president in Bill Cowan's absence as voting tied for best table topic between Virgil Crawford and Joe Masso. Masso spoke on his Favorite Hobby followed by Crawford on Why I Believe in Capital Punishment. Duane Moss earned best speaker with The Ice Breaker, Morgan Jones and Ron Farris also gave Ice Breaker talks, and Dean Merrifield presented Energy and Enthusiasm on his second talk.

100 Percent Cotton Planting Allowed in 1969 Terry County

Terry County farmers may plant 143000 acres of cotton in 1969 under ASCS rules, with no diversion required to receive higher price support payments of 14.73 cents per pound. Past diversions and water shortages influence plans, and overall payments will match 1968 levels despite the larger allowed acreage. New UIL Award Rules Adopted by Brownfield District

Trustees hear first reading of UIL inspired changes to athletic awards for all junior high and high school sports. Letters limited to seniors valued at 20 dollars with plaques for juniors sophomores and freshmen and trophies for seventh eighth grades. Specific game and meet thresholds set for football basketball baseball track tennis and golf. New rule effective for the 1968 60 term.
