Treasury eyed return of the $2 bill to cut costs

The U S Treasury considers reissuing the two dollar note to reduce printing costs as the $1 bill accounts for two thirds of currency production. If revived the $2 bill would cut production of $1 notes by about half a million dollars in savings. Some dislike the denomination as unlucky or misused.

Government Checks Warned To Watch Mail For Safety

Sheriff officials urged residents who receive government checks to monitor mail for due envelopes and remove them promptly after a case tying recent arrests to check theft. Four juveniles and an adult, including Willie L. Nolan, faced forgery and related charges after a merchant reported a youth attempting to cash a government check. Indictments from Terry County Grand Jury include Francisco Mendez burglary Robert Lomas Rodriguez cattle theft Thomas Longoria assault with intent to murder George Leon Wilkins theft over 50 Pedro Andrea Bustillo DWI subsequent offense Juan M. Police Cite Vehicle Crash For Pow der Puff Field Outage

A police spokesman said the power failure lasting 30 to 40 minutes Friday night was caused by a vehicle colliding with a guidewire at the football field during the Powder Puff game in progress.

Fuel retailers must display new price stickers after November 21

IRS official John J. Sloan announces Phase IV rules require gas and diesel retailers to obtain ceiling price stickers for each pump or grade. Stickers available at Room 315 of the Federal Office Building in Lubbock. requests may be mailed. One sticker per grade per pump plus replacement guidance. Bale counts show Terry County cotton harvest ahead of last year with 29,680 bales through Friday, about three weeks ahead, likely peaking after a hard freeze.
