Grand Jury Returns 21 Indictments in November Session

The Terry County Grand Jury met in its November session on Monday and Tuesday, reviewing 40 cases. It handed down 21 indictments and cleared several others.

Electrical Power Topic of Program for Four-County Council

Members from Terry Dawson Gaines and Yoakum counties met Tuesday at 7 am in the Minute Cafe Lamesa for the Four-County Agricultural Council November session. A Texas Power and Light Company representative led the program on current and future farm electricity use. About 20 members attended. The December 10 meeting will be in Seminole with a program on income tax returns.

Six Brownfield Children Found In Need After Welfare Call

Deputies and officials from Terry County with the county attorney and welfare workers found six children aged between one and 11 in a small apartment with almost no food and signs of neglect. A one year old cried while a five year old tended him, and a two year old bore teeth marks alleged to be from his father. The kids were taken to a private home for warmth, food, clothing, and affection. The father was arrested for drunkenness and the mother jailed for driving without a license.

Blotters detail Brownfield police arrests and mishaps

Brownfield police report a rash of drunkenness arrests with eight men jailed and fines from 20 to 50 dollars. Other cases include shoplifting, disturbing the peace, driving without licenses, and two highway patrol drunken arrests. The report covers burglaries, thefts at Bayless Jewelry, hubcap thefts, vandalism, and in-transit detentions by Border Patrol. Traffic accidents at Coleman Park, West Powell, and Yucca Lane are noted, plus a vagrancy by prostitution arrest in Terry County and several more alcohol related charges and probation revocations.

Classing Office In Biggest Day In Brownfield Cotton Market

The AWSDA Cotton Classing Office in Brownfield reports its largest day of the season with 3,483 samples classed under Officer Wilbur Reeves. Tuesday's total was 3,183 with about 2,500 carried over, bringing the season total to 38,724 from Terry Gaines and Yoakum Counties, well below last season. Grades show 29 percent Middling, 21 percent Strict Low Middling, and 32 percent Middling Light. Spotted readings range 3.4 to 4.4. Lubbock market quotes Middling 31.00, Strict Low Middling 31.05, Middling Light Spotted 30.10 per pound.

Butane Blaze Injures Man Near Brownfield

Juan Garza, 32, a Latin American man, was burned when a butane tank on a pickup truck ignited six miles south and west of Brownfield. Garza was treated at Brownfield General Hospital after emergency care. his companion fled the scene and eluded search. The incident followed three recent fire alarms addressed by Brownfield firemen.

Commissioners Canvass Votes In Terry County Session

Terry County Commissioners Court met to canvass votes from a special election on constitutional amendments. The count adjusted the fourth measure with a six vote shift, making the county total 248 for that proposal and 302 votes countywide for approval. Other actions included road right of way information, a 15000 investment of permanent school funds, a gas line relocation contract, paving bill payment to Thomason Construction, and a library progress report by Carrie Geron. The session was led by County Judge Raymond A Simms with commissioners Settle Mullins Barnett and Tankersley present.

Boys Invited To Cub Scout Session In Colonial Heights Cafeteria

A meeting for boys ages 8 to 10 and their parents will be held Thursday at 7 30 p m in the Colonial Heights Cafeteria.
