ACS sponsors the Great American Smokeout with library programs and Blue Bonnet Books in Terry County. Brownfield declares Thursday November 17 as Smokeout day. Brownfield Youth Against Cancer will juror the courthouse lawn as a no smoking zone with a 25 cent fine for violators.

Terry County District Attorney Dwayne Pruitt received the South Plains TDHR Outstanding Citizen Award for service to abused children. He represented TDHR in court when needed to protect child victims and secured videotaped testimony to spare a child from reappearing in court.

Veterans honored at Brownfield High assembly
Brownfield High School held a Veterans Day assembly in the gym at 11 30 a m with guests and a Color Guard from the State Guard. Principal Cary White spoke of freedom, the Spirit of the Plains Band performed the National Anthem, and Sam Miller led the pledge. Don McWhorter announced veterans and graduates who joined the armed services, listing dozens of teacher veterans.
