Brownfield High School Spirit of the Plains Marching Band placed third in Texas State Marching Band Contest finals at Mesquite. Band Director Richard Herrera credited peak performance in finals and noted 234 AAA schools competed. first place went to Waco Robinson, second to Crane. Brownfield began Monday with 10:45 preliminaries.

Fatal collision ends life of Brownfield teen
Early Saturday a Brownfield man Joel Adrian Molina 18 died when his 1990 Ford pickup struck the end of a parked 1991 Low-Boy farm trailer owned by Ray Douglas of Sylvester Texas in the Ince Fina Station lot. Four other passengers escaped serious injury. The patrol says Molina traveled west through the parking lot at unknown speed.
