In Terry County Texas about 13.3 percent of registered voters cast ballots on seven proposed constitutional amendments. All but No. 3 passed locally with margins showing strong support for amendments addressing land funds tax relief and bond issues while No. 3 failed 933 to 611. Box scores for each precinct appear on Page 4.
The Brownfield City Council will meet in regular session at 8 a.m. today with a packed agenda including public hearings and council business. The meeting previews multiple items of local interest and anticipated votes.
The councilmen will hear a further report from Parkhill detailing progress and next steps on the project. The briefing is slated for the next council meeting and will influence a forthcoming decision.
City records show October rainfall exceed normal levels with 4.20 inches in Brownfield and moisture on 12 days. The Brownfield Public Schools adult education program begins Sept 22 offering free classes in adult basic education and GED instruction at Brownfield High School, rooms 48 and 50, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays 7 to 9 p.m. Second member to Penidiot River Municipal Water Authority Board discussed, plus five Terry County Tax Appraisal Board seats up for election in 1982. Brownfield High crowned Amy Stone homecoming queen after a Friday night win over the Levelland Lobos. The Cubs led 7-0 in the first quarter with a one yard plunge by Tommy Fisher for the opener, then a five yard TD by Mike Reed after a 38 yard drive.
Brownfield High School Theater Arts presents The Me Nobody Knows directed by Lou Lindsey. Ten children grow up in a ghetto sharing fears and dreams in childlike fashion. Cast includes Mark Addison Marcus Bermen Holly Cardoni Darren Gillespie and others. Musical direction by Susan Sears. Shows at 7 30 p m tonight and Saturday with $2 admission.
Crime Line tip leads Brownfield police to two men charged with burglary in the Oct 21 Bill's Meat Market break in. David Fullbright and Curtis Smith face charges after $50 in meat and cheese were stolen and a front window damaged. An unrelated accident on Tohoka Road led to a DWI charge for Frank Alvarado. Police note six other arrests for public intoxication and one for theft under $5 during the period.
District realignment by the University Interscholastic League reshapes 1982 schedules. Pampa moves down from 3-AAAAA to 1-AAAA joining Brownfield, Levelland, Lubbock Estacado, Lubbock Dunbar, Canyon, Borger and Dumas. Meadow and Wellman districts also see changes affecting upcoming football and basketball calendars.
A Hobbs woman, Kathy Horton, 25, died Saturday afternoon nine miles south of Brownfield on U.S. 62-385 when she reportedly jumped from a speeding Dodge van. In the front seat were Cecil Horton and Eben Horton. in the back were the Hortons’ children Jennifer and Jacob. The family was en route to Lubbock and she died at Brownfield Regional Medical Center after being transported by ambulance.
