The Brownfield High School Class of 1980 81 held its final gathering Friday night in the school gym. Valedictorian Kendall Moss and salutatorian Leigh Knox gave brief, pointed speeches and diplomas were presented by School Board President Bill Swaringen.

The Brownfield Crime Information Inc announces a reward of 3890 dollars for information leading to the arrest and indictment of those involved in the April 26 1981 murder of Dianna Lynn Bryant by strangulation at an apartment complex on N Street. A second reward of 300 dollars is offered for information about criminal mischief at B J Hughes yard on May 25 1981 with about 500 dollars in damage.

Terry County received up to two inches of rain on Thursday afternoon as a thunderstorm moved through Brownfield. Hail caused minor or no damage, with about 15 minutes of marble sized hail reported downtown. Local producers welcomed the moisture for irrigation needs, while daily rainfall totals varied across the area from .5 to 2.0 inches and Brownfield’s May total reached 1.29 inches. The county’s year to date rainfall stands at 4.91 inches, below the normal five month total of 5.53 inches.
James Roe a 17 year veteran of the Brownfield Police Department was named assistant chief of police this week. He has led the criminal investigation department and joined the force in November 1964 as a patrolman, advancing from patrolman to sergeant to detective and to head of the criminal investigation division. The promotion also advances him from lieutenant to captain.
