Leonard Lang Dies at 54 Funeral Today in Cres cent Hill Church

Leonard M. Lang of 718 East Broadway died at 5 25 am on Wednesday at age 54. Final rites were set for 3 pm today at Cres cent Hill Church of Christ where he served as elder. Burial in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. He leaves a widow six sisters and four grandchildren. Lang born August 18 1903 in Eastland County grew up in Mitchell County married Ida Turnbow 1925 moved to Terry County 1933 then 1942. served as Terry County Democratic chairman 1954 and as Terry County judge 1952 53 and was a charter Lubbock Christian College board member. He and his wife joined Cres cent Hill church in 1947 and he became elder in 1952. An extensive civic leader in farming and local politics. Funeral officiants listed with numerous honorary pallbearers.

Posse Plans A Larrupin Rodeo Here

Terry County Sheriff's Posse announces a June rodeo at the rodeo arena with a downtown parade at 3 p.m. next Thursday. Eddie Courtney leads parade entries, with entry inquiries by phone. Concessions by Hand Bros Post 6794. entry fees go to prize money. events include saddle bronc bull riding bareback calf roping barrel racing and goat sacking. Admission is $1.50 adults 50 cents children. Performances include Jack Johnson as announcer Norman Brooks as clown and Morris Stephens as producer with dances nightly at Legion Hall.

Merchants Alarm Over Active Check Forgers in Town

Sheriff James Fulford warned Terry merchants to curb fraud after three men jailed for passing worthless checks. Williams of Brownfield, Baker of Roswell, and Bishop, a veteran forger, faced bonds from 1 000 to 5 000 dollars. Officers say the ring operated from Alaska to Brownfield with numerous attempts.

Cotton Program Talk Set for Terry County Meeting

Terry County Farm Bureau will host a three county subdistrict dinner meeting at 8 p.m. today in the Hitch-N Post Cafeteria to discuss the national cotton program recently presented to Congress. About 36 representatives from Terry Lynn and Yoakum counties are expected. a panel will include Jack Moore and H L Hub King.

Memorial Day Ceremony Planned by VFW and Brownfield

Memorial Day observance Friday will close most Brownfield businesses. Hand Bros. Post 1794 VFW will host a 10 a.m. ceremony at the courthouse square honoring fallen service members and Gold Star mothers. Major Taylor of General Telephone will MC and M D Paiburn will give Lest We Forget. Afterward, veterans will visit Terry County cemeteries to place flags.

The Gomez HD Club will sponsor a 42 party at 7 30 p m Friday at the home of Mr and Mrs Denver Kelly to raise funds for club projects. Admission is one dollar per couple and includes refreshments.

Lubbock Men Sentenced To State Penitentiary

Charles Floyd Renfro, 55, and Dwayne Rhea Millman, 17, of Lubbock were sentenced by Judge Louis Reed to two to three years in the state penitentiary. Renfro attempted to pass forged instruments at three local businesses, while Millman was convicted of burglary for a Meadow Combs Gin break-in in February and faces an additional six-year Hale County term.

Odessa couple visits relatives in Muleshoe and Brownfield

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ruehs of Odessa and Mrs. J. T. Aubury of 514 North Fifth travel to Muleshoe on Thursday to see a niece. They plan to return to Brownfield Friday via Lubbock to decorate graves, then tend local cemetery graves.

Babe Ruth League opens second season with two games

Babe Ruth League begins its second season with a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader at Babe Ruth Park. Opening ceremonies at 6:15 p.m. feature Mayor Arlie Lawrimore Judge Herb Chesshir and Arie Hart. Barbara Kirschner to toss first ball. Dodgers vs Red Sox in game one and Cardinals vs Pirates in the nightcap at 8:30 p.m. The 35 game schedule runs through July 17 with three rounds totaling 15 games after district tournament in mid July. The league, a 1956 PONY affiliate now Babe Ruth League, targets 13 to 15 year olds and plays Mondays Thursdays and Fridays.

Eight Brownfield High School Future Farmers of America members plan to seek Lone Star Farmer degrees at Area II convention in Midl and Friday and Saturday. Wesley Builder to Attend Three Week Training

Wesley, a co owner of the new bowlay alley in Wesley north of the cot tom oil mill, leaves this week for a three week course in maintenance and operation of AMF automatic optic spotting equipment at Shelby Ohio. He will be accompanied by his wife and daughter and return June 24 when installation begins June 30. The business aims to open in late July and the family will move to Brownfield after the training.

Funeral services for Wo 4 Coffee 41 Melody Restaurant employee were held Tuesday at Rix Funeral Home Chapel in Lubbock. Coffee's body was found around 6 pm Saturday by a fellow employee. death attributed to a heart attack. Mrs Bob Williams former Brownfield resident dies

Mrs Bob Williams a former Brownfield resident died at 1 a.m Sunday in Lubbock Methodist Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday at Labbeck Westman Ster Presbyterian Church in Post with Rev. David Zacharias and Rev. Clinton Beawards officiating. She attended Lubbock High School and Texas Tech, was a Kappa Kappa Gamma member, and was survived by her husband Dr Bob Williams of Post, a daughter Karen Kay a son Stuart Don, her parents and a brother Royce Don Tankerste. Burial was in Veoh Memorial Park under Axl Funeral Home direction.

Norman Lovelace, 61, a farmer near Tokio, named district Father of the Year as one of 17 district winners for statewide honors. He has long served Tokio Baptist Church as deacon, Sunday school superintendent, treasurer and song leader, with a lifetime of community service and a family including wife Winnie and four children.
