A Memorial Day Service honoring all military veterans is planned for 10 a.m. Monday in the American Legion Hall. The service will begin with a flag raising ceremony and continue with remarks and a moment of silence to honor those who served.
The Brownfield High School Senior Awards Assembly honored the Class of 1998 led by valedictorian Kayla Waters and salutatorian Bekki Owen. Top ten members were introduced alongside numerous honors including All A Honor Roll, Presidential Award for Educational Excellence, UIL Scholar Awards, National Honor Society, and Who's Who recognitions.
Brownfield City Council in regular session approves three items including a shared ISF cost estimate plan with Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation, adoption of amended power sales contracts with West Texas Municipal Power Agency and related cities, and a sidewalk variance for a Burger King. Warden Jody Bradley highlighted ISF benefits, payroll, rent, sales tax, and local spending, noting expansion plans to 500 beds and ongoing state talks.
Brownfield police and Terry County sheriff's deputies will target vendors selling tobacco to minors under the STEP program. Class C misdemeanor citations carry up to a $500 fine for clerks, with minors cited for possession. Initial vendor outreach precedes inspections and signage checks, followed by sting operations using minor decoys.
