Brownfield Council Accepts Bids On Street Seal Coat And Pickup

The Brownfield City Council approved four bids for street seal coating led by Pioneer Pavers Inc of Lubbock at 12 19560 and 24 per ton for patching. A half ton pickup bid to support the electrical department went to Charles Paul Chevrolet at 1618 93 with other offers from Craig Motor and Charles Darwin Ford.

Nine Rural Road Accidents Reported In April In Terry County

Texas Highway Patrol logged nine accidents on rural roads in Terry County during April. Nine people were injured and property damage was about 8440 dollars. Through four months the county shows 29 accidents with no deaths and property damage around 21290 dollars. Sergeant A E Roberts warned drivers to stay vigilant as summer vacations begin and children are out and about.

Final Activities Planned For 1967 Brownfield Seniors

The Rev. Alby J. Cockrell will be featured speaker at 8 p.m. baccalaureate in Brownfield School Auditorium for 104 seniors. Commencement exercises follow with Martha Thomas and Jon Awbrey as top speakers. Awards go to students across departments. six language awards mark Miss Suzanne Bacchus’s six language years.

Cuban Doctor Speaks To Brownfield Rotary Club

Dr. B T Cuesta, a Cuban refugee living in Levelland, addressed the Brownfield Rotary Club about life under communism in Cuba. He described Castro’s regime, its impact on medicine, shortages, and alleged links to blood sales for the Vietcong, urging vigilance against communism. Visiting Rotarians and local leaders attended the meeting and the club's Scout charter was presented.

The Brownfield School Board met Monday night and awarded the bid for two pickups to Charles Paul Chevrolet. The firm submitted the lowest total bid of 1398 dollars for the two units, with its name initially omitted from the report.

Lions See Oil Film At Meet

The Brownfield Lions Club heard a film titled It Never Rains Oil about the oil industry fiscal risks. Jim Kent of Seagraves presented the program with the Oil Information Committee of the Texas Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association. Special guests attended and about 58 members and guests were present.

Kiwanis Two Part Meeting With Music And Talk

Kiwanis Club held a two part regular meeting at the Party House Tuesday. Bud Cotham introduced the music portion with Jay Stewart presenting sixth and seventh grade choirs including The Sound of Music medley and The Ideals quartet performing Dear Heart and Three Coins in a Fountain. Auxiliary States Poppy Sale to Benefit Veterans and Families

American Legion Auxiliary post 269 leads its annual Poppy Sale with booths at First National Bank Brownfield State Bank and Trust and the post office plus weekend supermarket booths. Proceeds support veterans and families with local volunteers selling memorial poppies to honor war dead and injured.

GenTel enlarges its automotive telephone service IMTS by adding a second channel. The upgrade, with base station at Brownfield Central Office and antenna on East Tate and Lubbock Road, allows calls within about 30 miles and long distance dialing through Brownfield Direct Distance Dialing.

Reception Honors ASCS Officials in Texas Visit

Horace D. Godfrey and W. Lewis David along with Ralph T. Price will be honored at a Brownfield reception at 9 p.m. Tuesday. They visit for the Shirt sleeve Conference in Lamesa from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, with farm leaders invited to attend. The Lamesa meeting will be at Lamesa High School Auditorium 14th and Ave. F. Officials report to the Secretary of Agriculture on county and state farm leadership.

Plans Underway For WISU ACC Football Game

Brownfield Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture plans a college level football game Oct. 5 between West Texas State College and Abilene Christian College junior varsity teams. The Education and Recreation Committee, led by Dr. Tim Faulknerberry, arranges it with halftime by Texan Drill Team and South Plains Junior College band. ACC has accepted the invitation. West Texas State University must approve. Jerry Jones of ACC and Bobby Smith of Andrews are among area players on the rosters.

Rites Held For J. J. Treadaway

Funeral services for Shelby J. Treadaway 81 were held in Austin with Rev John Deschner officiating. He died in Austin Friday and was buried at Assumption Cemetery. A longtime Texas Highway Department engineer and former Abi lene district chief, he belonged to Tarrytown Methodist Church and the Masons for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife daughter and son in law plus siblings nieces and nephews.
