Brownfield bands stage Friday spring concert
A spring concert by three Brownfield school bands is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Brownfield High School auditorium. The 75 minute program costs 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students, with proceeds aiding the Band Boosters to retire indebtedness from the Band Hall air conditioning system installed last year as a gift to the school.

Brownfield City Council approved a 41 455 dollar bid from Cummins Supply Amarillo for substation materials with labor provided by the city. Cyclone Fence Co Lubbock won a 1 275 dollar bid for fencing. He studies at Howard County Junior College Big Spring and captains its basketball team. Bell earned his national berth by winning the statewide discus at Abilene last week. Car slips into lake while releasing boat at Fort Phantom Lake
Magonolia Camp resident Robert Butler, 23, a Hardin-Simmons University junior, backed his car and boat trailer into Fort Phantom Lake near Abilene to launch a boat. The car slid into 10 foot-deep water, taking about 45 minutes to recover. Butler saved his English theme from the car before escaping the vehicle. He spent the afternoon drying spark plugs and changing oil to try to get the car running again.

An Armed Forces Day event at Terry County Airport features an Air Force jet trainer, a helicopter, and National Guard weapons displays. The E V Rileys of 907 East Oak joined 31 U S Odd Fellows and Rebekahs on a 23 state and 9 country journey through Europe and the United States. Kemper Wins Championship in Western GT Golf Tourney
J L Dusty Kemper of 401 East Cardwell captured top honors in the championship flight at Brownfield Country Club in a Western Division General Telephone Company golf tournament. C A Blakeney of Carlsbad was runner-up in the championship flight. Other flight winners and runners-up included Roy Priest and Bill Rice in first flight, Don Lennox and J B Sanders in second, Paul Farrar and Joe Weatherman in third, Corky Billingsley and Mike Coter in fourth.
