Union High seniors graduate and plan Colorado Springs trip

Wartes Leaves Meadow to Coach Stanton Teams

Larry Wartes, Meadow basketball coach since 1951, accepts head basketball and assistant football coaching jobs at Stanton High School. Wartes led Meadow teams to 15-12 in 1951-52, 44-9 over two seasons, then 20-6 and 24-3 in following campaigns. He notes the move is for the best and cites fine players.

Jaycee Rodeo Dates Set for July 7 10

The Brownfield Junior Chamber of Commerce announces the annual rodeo July 7 to 10 for amateurs only. Goat Mayo to supply stock. Mayo has run shows in Stamford Snyder Post and Pampa. Jaycee president says girls may show at the local Junior Livestock show in the future and Yoakum county is dropped from the event name. The Jaycees will fund sending a local boy to Boys State in Austin.

Terry County Farmers Watch Rain as Planting Advances

Rain began to ease as Terry County farmers started full scale planting with about 50 000 acres in, 114 000 remaining unplanted. Worries grow over grain storage with over 200 000 acres in grain sorghums and storage terminals near full. County receives 63 400 emergency wind erosion funds. contour listing pays 50 cents per acre, with potential 1 25 per acre for new practices. 4H FFA cotton contest offers 500 prize money. deadline July 1. Weather delivered 1.34 inches total in Brownfield week, with varied totals across the county.

R. L. Wade Services To Be Held Today

Funeral services for 75 year old R. L. Wade of Brownfield are set for 2 p m today at Gomes Baptist Church. Pastor T L Nipp will officiate with Rev. Bob Robbins assisting. Wade, who died Wednesday morning in Lubbock after a long illness, had farmed in Terry County since 1946, moving here from Dickens Kansas. He is survived by five daughters, three sons, four sisters, four brothers, a stepmother and many grandchildren. Burial follows at Terry County Memorial Cemetery.

McDaniel Charged After Raid Finds Whiskey Stock

County Court records show Robert McDaniel charged with illegal possession of intoxicating liquor after a raid by Sheriff Chick Lee and deputies. Four cases were found in a cabinet behind a refrigerator. trial set for May. McDaniel posted a $1,000 bond and was released.
