Terry County prepares jail renovation bids as projects trimmed
Terry County officials plan to renovate the old Thriftway Super Market into a new jail with bids opening May 27 at a special meeting. The juvenile unit was removed to cut costs and space would be used for storage. County officials also discussed trash problems along roads and ditches, with fines up to 500 dollars for county property and 1000 dollars for state property.

BRMC trustees approve Children Centre settlement payment plan
Brownfield Regional Medical Center board approves a general release and settlement with West Texas Children's Centre to repair BRMCs east wing top floor. WTCC will pay BRMC 23000 cash no interest starting June 15 1998 then 750 monthly until May 1999, then 1000 monthly until paid. Negotiations began a year ago and plan includes land sale talk.

Brownfield Band Takes Second at State Wind Contest
Brownfield High School Symphonic Band placed second in the 1998 State Wind Ensemble Contest at UT Austin Bates Recital Hall. Five class 3A bands qualified. Frisco High finished first. Judges included Fisher Mahr and Missal. UIL State Music Director Floyd praised the band. A Rome themed banquet is set for May 16 with pictures at 5:30 and dinner at 6, tickets $6.
