Self neglect tops Terry County elderly abuse report
Cerise J Merritt notes May is Elder Abuse Prevention Month and state APS classifies neglect as abuse. In Terry County self neglect is the most reported elder abuse type with over 80 percent of in home cases lacking care. Data shows 15 percent of residents 65 plus and 2002 investigations include 57 cases with 46 validated. APS serves elderly and disabled at home or in facilities and most clients receive community based services. Report suspected abuse to TDPRS hotline at 800 252 5400.
