Miss Benson Breezes Into State Finals

Nancy Benson of Brownfield defeated Marilyn Thomlinson of Lamar Consolidated 6-2 6-2 to reach the Class AAA State Tennis Tournament final in Austin. She was set to meet Lillian Billings of Mercedes for the title after Billings eliminated Rebel Jenkins of Lake Highlands 6-0 6-1. results of the finals were not available at press time.

Judge Ledbetter Presiding May 10 Civil Jury Docket

The 121st District Court of Terry County opens at 10 a.m. May 10 with Judge M C Ledbetter presiding and 22 civil jury cases set for trial including Dwain Franklin Lee vs Employers Mutuals of Wausa w and Goodpasture Grain Milling Co. cases against Pat Byram and Baker Farm Supply. The jury will report at 1 30 p m and motions and exceptions will be heard then.

Petit Jurors Summoned for May Term in Terry County

Convening for the May term of the 121st Judicial District Court of Terry County is set for this Monday at the County Courthouse. The list includes numerous residents with addresses across Meadow, Wellman, Trinidad, and surrounding areas, summoned for 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Water Use Surges in Brownfield During April

City Hall figures show Brownfield residents used 54,207,700 gallons in April, up from 49,345,500 a year earlier. The lowest daily total was 1,077,700 gallons on the 8th and the highest 2,577,500 on the 29th. In April 1964 the best and worst days were the 14th and 27th with 2,666,400 and 953,000 gallons.

Brownfield Council installs three reelected leaders

The Brownfield City Council swore in three reelected councilmen Jack Hamilton Kenneth Purtell and Sam Teague at the May session Teague was named Mayor Pro-Tem A cleanup drive was approved with Chamber of Commerce aid and the city will purchase a new insect sprayer for 1750 The council also granted Social Security coverage for Health Unit employees and approved irrigation pipe and electrical cost support for Luce Miller’s contract A meter for Babe Ruth League ballpark and a Youth Work program with the Economic Opportunity Office were discussed with action possible in a called session

Madrigal Singers Perform at Rotary Luncheon

The Madrigal Singers of Brownfield High School directed by Jim Casey performed at a Friday Rotary Club luncheon at the Party House. President Bill Noble presided. guests included Mark Ross and student Lance Roberts, with visiting Rotarians Claude Hearn, J. C. Chambers, Tom Aldridge in attendance.

The initial May session of the Terry County Commissioners Court is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Courthouse with County Judge R. A. Simms presiding.

The Terry County Grand Jury will convene for the May term with 25 charges on the docket. Accused include Edwardo F. Flores and Joel Mendez for removal of mortgaged property, Edward Earl Davis for burglary, Jose Angel DeLeon Jr for assault with intent to murder, Sammie Lee Reed for forgery, John Henry Reed Sr and Jr for forgery, Curtis Lee Smith for burglary and theft, M C McPherson for burglary and theft over $50, Roy Mayes and R L Anderson for worthless checks, and others including Juan Francisco Parras and Erasmo Cisneros with assault or rape charges.

Sixteen prospective grand jurors were summoned to appear at 10 am Monday for the May term of the 121st Judicial District Court in Terry County. Brownfield Police Blotter Reports Thefts and Minor Offenses

Brownfield police and sheriff’s deputies report multiple incidents over recent days. A battery was stolen from a pickup and recovered after a complaint by Woodrow Collins. A balloon of water hit a boy from a car, injuring a scooter rider. one teen was later charged with simple assault. Two men arrested for soliciting without a permit pleaded guilty and await sentencing. another curfew violation case is noted. A school-omission charge was dismissed on a warrant. Pauline Williams pleaded guilty to a worthless check, paying $41.70 in fines and costs. Forgery investigations continue. A Thursday afternoon traffic crash on Highway 1 involved a 1963 Ford pickup driven by Wayne Kissinger and a 1964 Chevrolet pickup driven by Jesse Smeed.

Lions Report Broom and Mop Sale Profits Rise
