J S Corning Returned For Funeral Services

J S Corning 80 died April 27 at his daughter Mary Roe s Azle home. He was buried April 27 in Terry County Memorial cemetery after services at the Northside Second Church of Christ led by Rev J L Pritchard. Survived by wife, son Jap, six daughters, 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. residents of Brownfield since 1917.

Bartlett Rites Held for G M Bartlett 81

G M Bartlett 81 died May 1 in Treadaway Daniels hospital after hours of illness. A retired stock farmer, he lived in Brownfield and Swisher and Terry counties, with funeral services at 2 p m Sunday at First Baptist Church. Rev Roche Newton officiated and burial was in Lamesa Cemetery. He is survived by his wife and a son Bert of Plains.

Gomez School to Close Next Year in Brownfield System

Gomez school will be closed next year the Brownfield school board announced after a Monday night meeting. Students will ride buses to Brownfield in 1953 54 as five staff members resigned including Betty Majors Nora Holder Tom Adams Nancy Arnold and Kenneth Glaze.

Brownfield Band Wins Sweepstakes Again at Plainview Contest

Brownfield High School band captured its third Sweepstakes Award and second consecutive year at the Regional Interscholastic League event in Plainview. They earned first division honors in concert sight reading and marching with a score of 98 in marching. Several junior high soloists also received top ratings.

Humble Oil and Refining Company marks an offset south of Cities Service discovery in Corrigan Maat- Fusselman field. Walter B. Collins well location is 660 feet from north and west lines of Section 9, Block A-3 PSL Survey, about 12 miles southeast of Brownfield. The site is scheduled to reach 11 800 feet.

Long-Time Resident B. H. Brannan Dies

Funeral services for B. H. Brannan 73 long-time Terry county resident were held at 3 p m Monday in the Brownfield First Baptist Church with Bro W Cooley officiating. The body was to be interred at Indian Gap where Brannan was a church member. He had lived in Indian Gap the past four years and died early Saturday after a brief illness.
