Brownfield Middle School bands shine at local and UIL contests

Brownfield Middle School Cadet Band won Sweepstakes and was named outstanding band at the Petersburg Band Festival on April 24. The BMS Red Express swept all first divisions at UIL concert and sight reading at Frenship Junior High on April 28. Six soloists—Julie Franco, Brent Woods, Philip Rolan, Sharron Wright, Laura Lopez, Michelle Gonzales—each placed first. Red Express led class C/CC with first divisions from every judge amid praise from several judges. Upcoming: Red Express at the Greater Southwest Music Festival in Amarillo on May 8, beginner band at Snyder Band Festival May 9, spring concert May 21 at 7 p.m. No admission.

Brownfield CISD trustees approve noon dismissal Thursday May 7 and full days May 11 and May 25 to compensate teachers who completed summer staff development time, allowing others to finish required 20 hours.
