Brownfield High School Coach Resigns in Emergency Session
Brownfield ISD accepted the resignation of James Rust as head football coach and athletic director after he plans to join Beeville in South Texas. Rust cited career advancement, effective June 1, and leaves a 2-8 season with a 1-5 district mark. Superintendent Crandall Young will lead the coach search and hopes to hire by semester’s end.

Officers Named At Annual Banquet Future Farmers Announce 1982 Award Recipients
Brownfield High School Future Farmers of America held its annual awards program in the high school commons. It named 1982 83 officers and awarded seven prizes to members including the sweetheart award to Kim Holmes and the president Joe Don Becker sculpture. Other honors went to Travis Brown Yancey Fariss Sam Miller Michael Robertson Geoff Cooper Johnnie Roe James Bell plus five honorary parent awards.

Voters Re elect Chesshir Judge In Saturday Primary
Terry County Judge Herbert Chesshir easily won the Democratic primary with 1,266 votes over challengers Paul Brock 593 and Dale Brown 203. He faces no opposition in November. turnout was about 32 percent of 6,900 registered voters. County Democratic Chairman race between Larry Sims 902 and W H Holleman 897 was the only other tight contest. Other incumbents ran unopposed.

Red Express Band Named Outstanding at Amarillo Festival
The Red Express Band of Brownfield Middle School directed by Geoff Bissett earned the Beth Kelly Award as the outstanding band among 20 at the Greater Southwest Music Festival in Amarillo. Red Rage Takes National Tourney Runner-Up Spot
The Brownfield Junior Division Little Dribblers reached the national tournament final in Levelland after a string of wins and a single loss in the winners bracket. They defeated Mid-Cities Blue 42-41 and Friendswood 36-32, then lost to Mid-Cities Red 53-40 in the winners bracket before recovering to beat Mid-Cities Blue 40-39 in the losers bracket and faced Mid-Cities Red again in the championship.

Rain Adds to Brownfield April Totals Near Normal
Rainfall across Brownfield and surrounding county over the weekend brought April totals close to the normal. Elrod reports Brownfield city recorded 1.04 inches in April with .89 fell on Friday and additional .27 inches Sunday. County spots included Pool Gin 1.7, Johnson Gin 2.0, Foster Gin .8, Lewis Waters 1.25, and Wellman Grocery 1.0. April highs reached 91 on April 13 and lows dropped to 33 on April 6-7.
