Commissioners Close Portion of Runway

Terry County Commissioners voted in a special session to close about 2000 feet of runway 20 at Brownfield Airport for repairs. Engineer Bill Schnerr of the Texas Aeronautical Commission confirmed poor runway condition with moisture at the base weakening support. He warned Runway 20 would need more extensive work within a month if not addressed.

City Issues 10 April Building Permits

The City of Brownfield issued 10 building permits in April totaling $209,100. The two largest permits were for a new home valued at $38,000 and an addition to a structure.

Towed Vehicle Causes Accident Near Brownfield

Clyde Ray Pruitt 27 was hospitalized after a one vehicle rollover six miles south of Brownfield on 385. Authorities say a 1969 Ford pickup towing a 1964 red International truck tractor lost control and overturned near the Brownfield Church of Christ. Building permits in April totaled 162000 for the metal church building, with year to date permits at 870083.

Resident questions repeat paving on West Webb Street

A West Webb Street resident asked why the street was resurfaced after last year’s work. Assistant City Manager Dick Fletcher said weather and multiple oil coatings led to an imperfect job, prompting the contractor from Lubbock to redo the paving at no extra cost to Brownfield.
