Fatal Three in Brownfield Crash at Farm Road Intersection

Funeral services were held for Raul Franco 36, his son David 11, and James Wayne Redwine 21, Brownfield residents killed in a two vehicle crash Saturday afternoon at the Farm Road 211 and U.S. 385 intersection nine miles north of the city. The collision occurred shortly before 4 p.m. as per the Department of Public Safety report.

April in Brownfield ends dry with sparse rainfall

April produced only .19 inch of moisture in Brownfield far below the 1.08 inches listed by the Texas Almanac. Year to date moisture stands at 1.81 inches, about 60 percent of the 3.01 inch Jan-Apr normal. Temperatures rose to the 80s on 17 days and to 92 on the 16th and 18th, while April lows bottomed at 35 and 38 degrees early in the month.

Girls softball registration set for Brownfield

Registration for Brownfield girls softball opens today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce office. A coaches meeting follows. Eligible players are ages eight through high school, with an $8 fee. The season begins June 3.

Local man given probation after hit and run guilty plea

David Bryan Peters received a five year probated sentence from 121st District Judge Ray Anderson after pleading guilty to failure to stop and render aid. As part of probation he must pay restitution of 2178.74 to victims plus 250 court and attorney fees and probation costs.
