New Patrolman Assumes Duties in Terry County
Burl A. Warren 29 takes duty as Texas highway patrolman in Terry County replacing Fred Lenz who resigned to a similar post in Terry County. Warren trained March 5 in Austin and comes from Lubbock where he drove for Santa Fe Trails. He and his wife Betty live at 503 Cactus Lane with daughters Lesa 4 and Tracey 2.

Burglary at J B Knight Distributing Hits Mattresses
Thieves broke into the J. B. Knight Distributing Company warehouse on North 6th Street during the early part of the past week. They took two mattresses and two box springs valued at 79.50 each while lower floors remained untouched. Entry used a pry bar to remove the padlock and hasp. Investigation continues.

The Community Industrial Survey notes Brownfield's climate as sub humid with a 41.9 percent noon humidity. 1964 was extremely dry with 8.02 inches of moisture, ranking not the driest on record but well below the 17.4 inch annual norm. Historical totals show prior highs and lows across decades including 31.59 inches in 1941 and several drought years.

Services Held For Resident J J Jowers
Final rites for J J Jowers aged 63 were conducted at Brownfield Church of the Nazarene with two pastors presiding. Burial followed in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under Brownfield Funeral Home direction. Jowers died at Brownfield General Hospital after a long residence in Terry County since 1921, moving from Young County. He is survived by two sons Billy J of Lubbock and Bobby Joe of Brownfield, six siblings, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
