Luncheon for WWI Veterans and Wives Planned at American Legion Hall
Martin Va bee RR. C. C. Tucker, quartermaster for the WWI Veterans group, left word that veterans, their wives and widows will hold a luncheon at the American Legion Hall Saturday with a free meal and prepared covered dishes. Tucker praised the Legion birthday event of March 18 and noted WWII veterans were honored guests as the first organizers of the American Legion 50 years ago.

Intermediate Choirs Earn Top Rating at UIL Contest
Brownfield Intermediate School earned a double sweepstakes at the UIL contest Saturday at Monterey High School in Lubbock. All judges gave First Division ratings to the Treble Choir and the Eighth Grade choir in sightreading and concert. Directors: Mrs Marjorie Dodson.

Little League Seeks 100 More Players for Season
Registration at the Intermediate School Cafeteria drew 175 boys, with 39 eight year olds, 35 nine year olds, 40 ten year olds, 35 eleven year olds, and 29 twelve year olds. At least 270 players are needed for 18 teams. registration closes April 1 to allow tryouts on schedule.

Lamesa Solons Sign Fire Fighting Contract
Terry County Commissioners approved a fire fighting contract with the City of Lamesa to use its equipment and personnel for fires in Terry County. They allocated 100 for J D Akers travel to a May 4 6 tax assessors meeting in Houston and a 5000 bond for Mabel Powers. A fee request for Lonnie Fulford was denied after a $1480 expense reimbursement bid.

Candidates For Director Of Hospital District Speak Out
Terry Memorial Hospital District will elect four board members on April 5. Candidates include Robert Baumgardner Homer Barron Ronald Stice Wayne Rousseau John L Cruce Robert Beasley and Bill Cowan. Incumbents Barron Baumgardner and Stice seek re election. The board may change the election basis to three two two. Brownfield News could not reach all candidates. Barron and Cowan gave comments on qualifications plans and community goals. Cruce is a repeat candidate with prior service and Rousseau is a first time candidate from Terry County.

Jim Cloe of Gulf Warehouse and Jackie Moon of Moon Machinery helped Sun down coaches and about a dozen track boys stranded by a midwinter snow storm on the Levelland cutoff. They pulled the bus free and offered shelter at the warehouse. Also note the April 1 deadline for 1959 auto license plates.
