Four county districts Brownfield Meadow Wellman and Union vote on April 3 with two trustees per district. In Brownfield three candidates seek two seats including incumbent C G Griffith. Meadow features seven candidates with two incumbents Carl Russell and J H Eubanks running. Wellman has two retiring members A Lee and G I Simms may run. Union retains incumbents W Holladay and Claud Montgomery and may add a candidate. County wide Elmer Brownlee reports 3206 students with a loss of 257 from 1954 census.

Legionnaires Prepare for 19th District Convention
Commander Lynn Nelson says memberships and lodging will be tightened for the 19th District American Legion Convention to be held April 3-4. Highlights include a 2:30 p.m. Saturday parade with National Guard units from Levelland Lamesa and Brownfield and riding clubs, a Sunday General Session at the high school auditorium led by Art Connell, a Saturday night Legionnaires dance at Veterans hall, and a Sunday breakfast at Nick's cafe for commanders and adjutants.

A spectacular blaze destroyed the Higginbotham Bartlett lumber yard in Brownfield early Monday, causing about 100000 dollars in damage. The fire spread quickly despite a light wind, with minimal water on hand until alarm was sounded. Insurance covered most losses, and local rates faced adjustments as a result. Police Stop Burglars After $5 Loot From Auto Parts
Two men broke into Hamilton Auto Parts and grabbed a $300 cash register but Night Patrolman Emmett Tucker spotted them. They fled after dropping the load. Brownfield officers also detained Billy George Godwin linked to a stolen 1952 Oldsmobile found abandoned after gas ran out.

Rash of Automobile Accidents Causes Damages in March
A March rash of motor crashes in Brownfield produced seven incidents totaling 2 723 50 in property damage over 13 days. Notable collisions occurred at Broadway and Sixth and Broadway and First, Main and First, Ballard and Main, and Second and Hill, with several vehicles from 1950s and 1953 models involved. One crash led to hospitalization for a spouse, and charges were filed against a driver for driving on the wrong side of the road.
