Storms light up sky over Terry County in spring thunderstorm

Brownfield and Terry County saw a one hour storm Wednesday night with lightning and hail. National Weather Service reports placed the storm from 8:06 to about 9:05 p.m. with hail and heavy rain around Brownfield and Highway 385. Rain totals ranged from .2 to 1.18 inches, local rainfall accumulations showed Brownfield reaching 2.81 inches for the year, while power outages were not reported. Local growers noted rainfall totals varying by area.

City Power Plant to be marked historical site Saturday

Terry County Historical Commission will dedicate a marker at Brownfield City Power Plant at 3 p.m. Saturday March 31 at 7th and Hill streets. The commission notes the plant built in 1922 remained at its site with later upgrades and the cooling tower, now a local curiosity as most cities buy electricity from power grids.

Terry County Commissioners Set Routine Monday Session

The Terry County Commissioners will meet in regular session at 10 a.m. Monday, March 26. Items include the Clerk's January report, bids for property and liability insurance, airport discussion with Larry Cerovski of L&P Enterprises, Extension Agent Chris Bishop activities, approval of $42 travel for Lupe Serna to a March 29 advisory council meeting in Lubbock, and discussion of Terry County’s involvement with the South Plains Housing Finance Corporation.

DSL problems hit Brownfield area customers

Local Windstream customers report weekly DSL outages disrupting business and public services. Windstream managers say the DSE switch reboot resolved the issue by Thursday night March 22. County Clerk Ann Willis notes two days of outages this week hindered births and court operations.
