Cpl Ruben Lemon of the Brownfield Police says the March 12 car bicycle crash that seriously injured eight year old Jacob Ernest Contreras is closed with no charges. Contreras remains in critical condition at Lubbock General Hospital. Police report say Timothy Ramirez 18 driving an Oldsmobile Cutlass south on Ballard collided with Contreras as he rode east on Shinnery. Investigators found Ramirez was under 30 mph below the speed limit.
Rangers shift operations to Brownfield with Larry Gilbreath in charge covering Terry, Yoakum and Lynn counties. He notes the local agency will assist surrounding areas on request from Austin and emphasizes the unit acts on formal orders rather than initiating investigations.
Yamada Yoko is an 18 year old exchange student from Hachioji Tokyo living with Pat and Mary Jane O Daniel. Daughter of Kotaro and the late Yoka Yamada she has a brother Ryuichi 16 and a sister Naoko 20 a Meisei University student majoring in Social Studies hoping to be a teacher.
