Brownfield Leaders Debate County Fire Funding at Lunch Meeting

After a 45 minute session at K Bob s Restaurant the Brownfield City Council and Terry County Commissioners left without a final plan to share fire department costs. They reviewed per fire charges of 461 and a potential flat 25000 yearly fee, but disagreements remain on how to allocate county grass fires versus city incidents. The groups agreed to continue talks at a later joint meeting.

Reward Offered for Western Auto Burglary in 1983

The Brownfield Crime Information Inc. will pay a 300 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons involved in the burglary of Charlie Price s Western Auto Warehouse on Wednesday March 2 1983. Entry was gained by breaking a window and merchandise was stolen.

Burglary Report Involves GMC Pickup On Yucca Lane

A white and red 1976 GMC Pickup at 714 Yucca Lane was burglarized between March 2 and March 5, 1983. A C B radio and other items were stolen. no damage was caused to the vehicle. No suspects named in the report.

Reward Offered for Information on Nelsons Pharmacy Burglary

A $300 reward is offered by The Brownfield Crime Information Inc for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in the burglary of Nelsons Pharmacy at 805 Tohoka Road on Monday morning March 7, 1983. Entry was gained by breaking a door glass. A quantity of drugs was stolen and a vehicle was seen leaving the scene.

Grand Jury Hands Down 9 Indictments

Terry County Grand Jury handed down nine indictments including Lon Lee Jackson Pigrum for a forged check to Robert Acevedo dated Jan 18 1982. Ignacio N Galindo charged with entering a 1981 Chevrolet van owned by Lynn Black on Feb 8 1983. Valdomero Salas and Juan Medina Jr accused of breaking into a dwelling owned by Ken Lowrance on Jan 18 1983 and theft. William Todd and Steve Cook indicted for unlawfully taking a 1976 Dodge pickup from Eldon McGinnis on Dec 14 1982. Jimmy Dale Hines listed as see Jury Pg 4.

Realtors Hold Web Session at Board Meeting

Brownfield Savings and Loan Officer Bruce Woods spoke at the Board of Realtors monthly meeting on mortgage loan procedures. He noted willingness to fund deals, mentioning his past role with Summit Savings. Patsy Nicholson announced affiliate dues due before April 1 and that 11 new members joined, a 110 percent rise from last year. Next meeting set for April 13.

Brownfield Chamber of Commerce reviews final banquet accounting showing 505 attendees with 46 student tickets at 10 dollars each for a 5050 revenue and 6380 expenses including 3000 for speaker Justin Wilson. Cropswap Signup Passes For Farmers In Terry County

ASCS officials report strong participation in President Reagan's PIE program. Director Danny Decker says about 95 percent of Terry County farmers are signed up with Cropswap, covering large farms while small farms remain. Local producers Burke Slaughter and Keith Vandivere praise the plan for reducing crop acres and government impact as they adopt 50 percent participation.

Noon Lions Tournament of Talent Show slated for March 25 26

The Noon Lions invite singers dancers instrumentalists and others to enter the Annual Talent Show at the Middle School Auditorium with a 7 30 p.m. start on both nights. Open division offers a $500 savings bond top prize plus smaller runner-up awards from local sponsors. Junior divisions for grades 6–8 and 9–12 offer cash bond prizes.
