The council approves a new budget amid routine debate. A reporter recounts personal moments from a police firearms range visit with FBI Agent Curtis L. The Babe Ruth League invites parents and volunteers to a 7 30 p m organizational meeting in the Civil Defense Room basement Public Safety Building. The 13 year old tournament moves from Brownfield to Slaton this year and the state event will be in Ft Smith Ark August 3. Proceeds from candy sales concessions and a White Elephant sale fund new uniforms.
The Brownfield City Council approved a 51 945 043 budget for the new fiscal year starting April 1. A public hearing is set for March 26. The budget increases Water Department funding to 158 000 and includes a 10 percent city employee raise. The one cent city sales tax is projected to yield 81 000, with 12 000 population assumed. Bids for a seal coating project were opened, Thomason Construction Co. of Hobbs NM besting others at 6 898.50, and bids for a street paving project were set to open March 26.
Water Inc. president K B Watson says the Texas Constitutional amendment authorizing bonds of 3.5 billion dollars for the Texas Water Plan passed the House in Austin by 132 to 15. The vote shifts submission to voters in 1969 instead of 1970 and signals statewide support for groundwater restoration and long-range needs.
Three city councilmen Truett Flache Sammy Jones and Lloyd Hahn seek second terms with no opponents filing by the February 28 deadline. Election day is April 1 with polls at City Hall from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Earl Jones is judge and Wayne Sims alternates.
The monthly immunization clinic will be held Thursday from 2 to 5 p m at the South Plains Health Department corner of D and Main Streets. It serves families unable to visit a private doctor and acting director Dr Evelyn J Smiley will supervise the immunizations.

A meeting for area farmers interested in growing peaches and pecans will be held at the Party House at 2 30 p.m. Wednesday. Guest speaker Buford Hancock of Texas A M will discuss fruit and nut crops. County agent Jim Foy says farmers want informed talks on Terry County crops.
