Brownfield city permits show February totals at 193,200 from 11 permits, with two new residences at 1715 E. Hester and 1215 E. Tate driving most of the gain. The year-to-date building permits reach 244,700, as two houses account for 150,500 of February’s figure.
Brownfield will observe Texas Public School Week March 3 9 with a city proclamation by Mayor Tommy Hicks urging residents to visit schools. Open houses and day visits are planned with Colonial Heights and Brownfield Intermediate kicking off March 4 from 7 to 745 p.m. A list of February building permits shows $33 000 for two pools and a mobile home amid a total Feb 474 500 and year to date 626 875, with multiple individuals and firms listed for home remodels constructions and pool projects.

February in Brownfield featured a warm trend with three days at 75 degrees and 13 days above 60, yet a early cold snap sent temperatures down to two and six degrees. The high min hit 55 on the 22nd while a 13 degree low occurred on the 1st, and moisture measured .47 inch near the February normal of .50.
Brownfield schools brace for HB 72 rule requiring students to score at least 70 in all subjects to participate in extracurriculars. Enforcement begins March 9 for grades 7-12 with six week ineligibility and possible reinstatement after all subjects are passed. Officials urge community input to legislators as teachers and parents coordinate to support student effort.
